Brendan McDonough reads an excerpt in the video above from his book, My Lost Brothers (now re-titled Granite Mountain: The Firsthand Account of a Tragic Wildfire, Its Lone Survivor, and the Firefighters Who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice.) As well as his memoir, t’s a beautiful tribute to our Prescott 19, killed in the Yarnell Hill Fire in 2013.
The Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshots Crew, based in Prescott, Arizona, were a unique firefighting unit that are now forever remembered by how they lost their lives.

“It wouldn’t have been the same in Phoenix or in San Diego or anywhere else because this is our town. This is where we come from and we don’t let people forget the ones we love. Not my brothers, not our veterans, not our police, not our fire, not EMS – our town doesn’t let people forget.”

Lived in Prescott and loved it and were there when the 19 heroes fell. We knew 3 of them!! Had to move to MI, but our hearts are still in Prescott!!
Thanks for sharing, Dean! Who were the 3 that you knew? They’re all always in our hearts here in Prescott.
